American Standard Code for Information Interchange (ASCII) Proposed by American Standard Association Finalised in 1968 Standard of 7-bit code to represent numbers, letters & punctuation marks.
Functions:- To achieve compatibility between various types of data processing equipment making it possible for the components to communicate each other.
Enables manufactures to produce components that are assured to operate correctly in computer.
Enables humans interact with computer.
Enables users to purchase components that are compatible with their computer configurations.
